Jill Scott (n e Joyce Scott) was born to her mother on 4th April, 1972. The family was dominated by her grandmother, and she was an only child. Scott attended The Philadelphia High School for Girls. After graduation, she attended Temple University. She took secondary school classes the course of two years while also working. Her goal was to be an high school English teacher. After three years as teacher's assistant and studying, her dream of becoming a high-school English teacher fell through. She started her career singing live poetry and performing her own work. She eventually joined forces together with Amir Quest Thompson, a musician in The Roots. You Got Me is the outcome of their collaboration. In Roots' show she came out to be an artist. Later, she secured collaborations stars such as Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Additionally, she was able to learn about the performing arts during the Canada-wide tour of Broadway's musical Rent. She was hired to Hidden Beach Recordings as their first signing artist.
